Bioscrypt V-Smart Biometric Physical Access Control Readers Selected for Canadian Air Transport Security Authority Restricted Area Access Control Project
A-FSC (Acme Future Security Controls) to Supply Bioscrypt Readers at Airports Across Canada
Toronto, ON (August 30, 2005) – Bioscrypt Inc. (TSX: BYT), a leading provider of identity verification technology, today announced that Bioscrypt’s V-Smart biometric access control fingerprint readers will be deployed in 89 airports across Canada as part of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority’s (CATSA) restricted area identification card (RAIC) project. The purpose for the RAIC is to match non-passengers, people who are employed at the airport, to a card with biometrics and, with real time verification, confirm that the security clearance is valid.
The operational trial of the program, which was announced in February of 2004, involved approximately 40,000 workers and was deployed at Kelowna, Vancouver, Montreal and Charlottetown airports. The trial served to confirm the possibility that one card and one reader was able to both verify and provide access control with connectivity between individual airports and the CATSA database. Further, the trial was to validate the possibility that the RAIC could “talk” to multiple access control systems and identify lost, stolen, revoked, fail to return and suspended cards.
A-FSC has won the contract to be the exclusive supplier to the security authority for the RAIC project and will be providing Bioscrypt readers as required. CATSA recently stated that 29 of Canada’s biggest airports will be equipped by the end of December. All 125,000 airport workers should be enrolled sometime next year.
“We are pleased to have earned the opportunity to be part of the RAIC project as we believe it serves as an example to the rest of the world on how to use biometrics to enhance airport security,” said Robert L. Williams, President and CEO Bioscrypt. “We look forward to providing A-FSC with our readers as they fulfill the demands of the project.”
